Handy Air Lift FAQ

November 30, 2009 ·

Why does my Air Lift go up in stages? It seems to jump 2" to 4" at a time.

Uneven air flow or air pressure is too high. The Air Lift works best at 100 psi. It will still jump some, but not as radical.

Why is air leaking from the cylinder at the cylinder end plate or cylinder?

Seals may be worn and may not seal properly. Oil cylinder walls. This will allow the seals to seat properly. Use a 1:1 mixture of 30 wt motor oil and STP (1 oz of each). Squirt mixture in ½” hole in cylinder end plate. This should be done at least twice a year.  The best solution for long seal life is to place an in-line dryer (to remove moisture from the air) and an inline oiler to the air line supplying the lift. Replace seals. Use cylinder repair kit 11183.

What size of air compressor do I need to operate the lift?

Almost any size air compressor will work as long as it can produce 100 psi. pressure. The lift uses very little air.

Why does the foot pedal leak air?

Oil around valve stem with tool oil sometimes helps valve to seat better. Replace valve stem (12887)

Why won't my lift go up without help at the bottom of the stroke?

The air line is restricted. The air line may be pinched under the lift frame. Move the airline. The hose may be bent too much under the table. The foot pedal needs to be on the same side of the table as the 90 degree elbow from the cylinder points.

Why is oil leaking from the cylinder or foot pedal?

The oil drip is caused by air flowing through the foot pedal and the cylinder.  This is common. The oil is assembly oil used at the factory to help the seals and allow the cylinder piston and valve stem to move freely. Oil is used to coat the cylinder walls to prevent rust from forming due to moisture in the air. One way to keep oil off your floor is to throw a rag under the foot pedal and it will absorb the excess oil.
